Back in the groove
So I think I'm pretty well done getting my computer ready. Finally. I still want to go through my old hard drive and make sure I got all I want off of it before moving my old computer to its new resting place. Come to think of it, I still have a few more programs I'd like to install, but nothing pressing. All the way up until I ordered the pieces for it, I was planning on getting some sort of TV tuner for my new computer so it could double as my TV. As I was building it, I realized running dual PCI-e cards takes up a lot of space. So since I only have a single PCI slot left and I'd like to leave it open so I can upgrade to a Sound Blaster sound card (if I decide to), that means I would have to look for an external TV tuner of some sort. I found a couple that might do the trick and even one that claims to be designed for consoles. The problem is they cost anywhere from $100-150 and the quality is decent at best. Which, compared to my old TV tuner, is still an upgrade. So then I got the brilliant idea to consider going old school with a real TV to watch TV on. What an amazing discovery, I know. Anyway, LCD TVs have come a long way, so I figured a 19"ish would work great since that's how big my old monitor is.To make a long story somewhat shorter, I checked prices online and didn't find a whole lot. I even considered getting a second monitor and using a 'black box' to convert a TV signal to DVI. The 'black box' would only be around $50, so the monitor would be the only real cost. And that's where the problem with this scenario comes in. 19" LCDs aren't cheap either. Plus, the issue with using the 'black box' on a widescreen monitor with a Dish Network receiver that doesn't support widescreen may be a problem. Here I go making the story even longer. Luckily, Best Buy had what I needed. I ended up with a 19" LCD TV (widescreen) that has pretty much every video connector on it at a really good price. It seems to be working great right now, but I haven't tested my Xbox 360 on it. I'm really looking forward to testing the HDMI port. Moving on...In case you didn't notice, I've got a CSSDM server running right now. Since it's seeing pretty steady traffic, I'll leave it up for a while. The fact that it's even running amazes me. I spent very little time rebuilding the entire thing pretty much from scratch. As it turns out, one of the latest CS:S patches broke the Deathmatch mod. So the DM Mod maker re-wrote the entire mod in Sourcemod. I spent probably an hour and a half getting things running so I know more work needs to be done to it. In fact, it's limited to the current map right now because I have map voting disabled. It shouldn't take a long time to get things up to speed but it will take time. If anyone has any requests, let me know... it'll be pretty easy to add them since I have to do work on it anyway. Also, if any community member wants to be an admin on the server, let me know. We'll both have to be in there at the same time before I can add you. Plus, it's helpful to actually play on the server you'll be an admin on. Any server requests can go in the Forums.
